‘The best that I can be’
Supporting our Local Community
A choir from class 5 and 6 sang at Queen’s hospital on Wednesday afternoon, in order to raise money for the children’s ward. They were in fine voice and were a credit to the school in terms of their behaviour.
Reindeer Run 2018
We had great fun running across the fields for our Reindeer Run this afternoon. Thank you to Mrs Squirrell for organising it. Thank you so much for your very generous sponsorship of this event. The reindeer run proceeds will support a campaign to provide all children in-patients across the hospitals with a present at Christmas. Please return your sponsor forms on Monday if you haven’t already done so. We will announce the grand total next week.
Children in Need
We raised over £150 for Children in Need. Thank you for your generosity.
Nurse Drop-In
The school nurse will be dropping in to meet parents from 8.30am on Tuesday 27th November. She will have with her our school’s mental health support worker who will be happy to talk to you about any concerns you have over your child’s mental health and wellbeing. Please do make use of this opportunity.
Online Safety and Gaming
Recently, I attended a talk by Lorin LaFave of the Breck Foundation. Her family faced tragedy due to her son meeting someone online whilst gaming. During the talk, she stressed the importance of parents working together to keep their children safe online. Many children will tell their parents ‘all my friends play this game or use this app’ and parents often feel that their child will be left out if they do not let them play. Sadly, this leads to children playing inappropriate games and engaging in risky online behaviour. Apps and games, such as ‘Fortnite’ have an age limit for a reason and they are not appropriate for Primary aged children. Please think carefully about what your children do online and make sure that you are fully aware of what they are accessing and how this could affect their mental health and wellbeing.
