‘The best that I can be’

Dear parents/ carers,

Happy New Year to all our families. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Thank you again for all the lovely cards and presents, which I opened on Christmas day. We have a busy term ahead and we hope that all the bugs and the bad weather stay away, so that we can make the most of every day in school.

Book Fair

Following the success of last year’s book fair, we have another booked for this year. The book fair will run after school from Thursday 4th– Wednesday 10th February. I hope that you will all come and browse the books and other items for sale and hopefully make some purchases. The school receives a generous percentage of books as commission.

Parents Evening

This term’s parents evening will take place on Tuesday 23rd February, from 2pm-6.30pm. The children and teachers are very much looking forward to sharing the excellent work and progress made with you all. The parents’ evening will follow a similar format to the last one. More details and forms will be sent home nearer the time.

Clubs Letters

Clubs letters will be coming home with the children today. As Choir was undersubscribed, we have opened it up to years 1-6 (Wednesdays). We really would like more children in the choir so that they can sing at events and church services. If your child already has 2 clubs and would like to come to Choir, they can have it as an additional club.

Healthy Packed Lunches

Last year, we asked parents to ensure that their children’s packed lunches were healthy and did not contain sugary and fatty foods (chocolate, crisps, etc…). Unfortunately, several children have very unhealthy packed lunches, some of which contain only snacks and no substantial protein or carbohydrates. Please help your children to be healthy by providing them with a balanced packed lunch, or a school meal which meets strict nutritional guidelines. For ideas on healthy packed lunches, follow the link: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/childhealth6-15/Pages/Lighterlunchboxes.aspx

PE Kit

There were several children who did not have PE kit this week and were therefore unable to participate on the PE sessions. Please ensure that your child has a full kit, including shorts, tracksuit bottoms and spare socks in school every day.

Wellies for Class 5 and 6

Next Thursday, class 5 and 6 will be looking at plant and animal habitats surrounding the school. They will be walking through long grass and may get muddy. Please provide your child with Wellies and a waterproof coat, in case the wet weather continues.

Unwelcome Visitors!

There was a small outbreak of head lice at the end of last term. It is vital that parents check their children’s hair regularly and treat it if necessary, to prevent the head lice from spreading. All pupils with long hair should have their hair tied back at all times whilst in school.

Attendance

Attendance for each class this week:

Reception- 95.33%; Class 1 and 2- 96.33%; Class 3 and 4- 94.14%; Class 5 and 6- 95%

We really need to build on this for the rest of this term to keep our upward attendance trend going.

Pen Licence

Congratulations to Chinaza Osaji-Okai for earning his pen licence. The pen licence is awarded for consistently neat, cursive writing.
