‘The best that I can be’
Dear parents/ carers,
We have had an action packed week this week, with class photographs, sports events and visits, in addition to all the exciting learning we always do at Dame Tipping.
Quad Kids
The children had a great time at the Quad Kids event at Hornchurch Stadium. All of the children did very well and their behaviour was excellent. Mrs. Potts and Mrs. Davies would like to give a special mention to Matthew Hick who came 2nd out of a 160 year 5 boys in the 600metres, running it in just 1 minute 57 seconds. Very impressive, Matthew.
Farm Visit
Members of class 1 had a great time on their visit to Havering Park Farm this week. Gill Mayling very kindly donated all the money spent on refreshments that morning to our school fund. Thank you, Gill!
Football Match
Coach Del organised a friendly football match at Bower Park Academy between our Year 5 and 6 boys (with a couple of year 4s to make up the numbers!). It was an exciting match, with the final score being 6-3 to the Year 5 (and 4) team.
Goal scorers for year 5 were William Smyth (4 goals); Dylan Patel (1 goal) and Michael Battrum (1 goal)
Goal Scorers for Year 6 were Alfie Colton (2 goals) and Kiitan Bayode (1 goal)
The boys showed great sportsmanship. Alfie captained the Year 6 team very well and Kiitan scored Goal of the Match.
Zoo Visit
Class 3 had a wonderful day at Colchester Zoo yesterday. I was lucky enough to go with them and the sun shone for us all day. The children were a credit to our school and as well as having fun and seeing some magnificent animals, they learnt lots about animal habitats.
New Chair of Governors
Our new Chair of Governors, Greg Brome, will be in on Tuesday 23rd June to speak to staff and children. He would like to meet parents at the end of the day too, so please have a chat with him if you have the chance.
Bags 2 School
Thank you to everyone who has donated clothes. If you dropped off your bag after 10.30, it was not collected. If possible, please collect the bag so that you can decide where you would like it to go, otherwise we will take it to the clothes bank.
Quiz Night
Please could you let Danielle and Kay know if you would like tickets to the Friends Quiz Night tonight.
Child Protection Policies
Please see the website for the latest updates of our child protection, safeguarding and whistleblowing policies.
Request from Years 1 and 2
Please could you donate any empty ‘Pringles’ or similar tubes to Mrs. McCormack’s class over the next couple of weeks so that they can use them to make lighthouses.
Summer Fair
Preparations for the Summer Fair are coming along nicely; however, we still need more volunteers to run/help with stalls. Please let Danielle, Kaye, Michelle, or any of the Friends know if you can spare an hour or two of your time on Saturday 27th June.
Sports Day
I know that some of you may be disappointed, but we have made the decision as a school to have our Sports Day events during school time without parents present. This has been a difficult decision, but due to the lack of space on the field, which is still not sufficiently flat for certain events, and the problems in the past of parents having to swap days off at work due to inclement weather, we feel that it will be less complicated this way.
Parental Complaints
Many members of staff have worked very hard this year to provide extra opportunities for the children. It is very disappointing when parents stand in the playground and complain about how things have been organised, or complain to members of staff who were not involved in the event. If you have a genuine complaint, please make an appointment to talk to the appropriate member of staff so that they can discuss the matter with you.
Car Park
Please can I kindly request that parents do not come into the car park before 2.45pm. As you know, there is nowhere to turn at the end of the lane and it is very difficult for staff or visitors who need to leave at this time to exit the school. It is also difficult when we need to use the playground for PE and outdoor learning, as we cannot have children outside when cars are being driven on the playground. If possible, please park at the church and walk down. We can provide a disabled parking space from 2.45 if anyone is unable to do this. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Open Afternoons
We will be giving parents an opportunity to look at their children’s work and have an informal chat with class teachers about their progress during our open afternoons. These will take place as follows:
Years 1,3,5 and Reception- Monday 13th July 1pm-3pm: Please note that Mr. Evans is on a course on Monday 13th. Mrs. Hood is happy to talk through your child’s work with you, but if you would particularly like to speak to Mr. Evans, please come on Tuesday.
Years 2,4,6 and Reception –Tuesday 14th July 1pm-3pm
We hope that you can join us. If you need to make a more formal appointment to discuss your child’s report, this should be agreed with the teacher for later in the same week.
Attendance
It has been a disappointing week for attendance, with 2 classes only achieving 93%. Well done, to Class 3 for 98% attendance.
Commendations
Chloe Taylor, Krishaan Chagger, Milo Shorter, Ben Wapling, Josh Thurbon, Dylan Patel, Sadie Turrell, Chidi Emechebe, Mrs. Davies
