‘The best that I can be’

Dear parents/ carers,

We have had another busy week this week. I had the pleasure of teaching class 3 on Monday morning. It was lovely to see how well they have progressed in their learning. The year 5 and 6 show is coming along nicely and we now have our core values, as chosen by staff, governors and children displayed in the hall. These values are: Friendship, Perseverance, Truthfulness, Compassion, Respect and Forgiveness.

Goodbye Mrs French

Our Reception teacher, Mrs. French will be leaving us at the end of this term to teach in another school. We wish her every success for the future.

Next Year, Reception will be taught by Miss North. Miss North will be visiting us to meet the new reception children and their parents in July.

New Chair of Governors

Our new Chair of Governors, Greg Brome, will be in on Tuesday 23rd June to speak to staff and children. He would like to meet parents at the end of the day too, so please have a chat with him if you have the chance.

Quiz Night

Thank you to those who attended the Quiz Night last Friday. It was a really fun evening and we raised over £200 for the school.

Bags 2 School

Thank you to all those who donated unwanted clothes. We raised £67.20 for the school.

Lost Property

There is a huge amount of lost property in the basket at the moment. This is probably due to the warm weather. Please could you check the basket and take home anything belonging to your child. Anything left at the end of term will be taken to the clothes bank.

School Council Drinks Sale

The school council will be running a drinks sale on Wednesday next week. If you would like your child to purchase a cup of squash to raise money for the school, please send them in with some change. Drinks are 20p and 5p for a refill.

Summer Fair

It is not too late to volunteer to help out at the Summer Fair on the 27th June. Please speak to the friends or leave them a note in the office if you are able to help. The more people who volunteer, the less time each person has to spend on a stall. Please bring along your friends and family on the day so that we can raise as much money as possible to improve play equipment and facilities for all of our children.

School Dinners Forum

Last Friday, I met with children who regularly have school dinners to discuss what they like about school dinners and any suggestions they have for improvements. The children were very articulate when putting their views across. Children were mainly very positive about school dinners, but there were some concerns over portion sizes, menus and temperature of food. As a result of the meeting, I will meet with the area Catering Manager to discuss new menus for the Autumn term and options for the older pupils which should be more filling. I have also talked to our cook, Debbie about the issues that were raised.

Family Cricket at Bedford’s Park

We would love you and your children to join us for a friendly cricket match at Bedford’s park on Friday 3rd July. It will be a very informal affair, but should be great fun. Please note that you will need to collect from school at normal time and supervise your own children. We should be ready to get started by 3.30pm. If you have any cricket equipment, please bring it along so that we can get a few matches going.

Attendance and Requests for holiday leave in term time

Mainly due to parents taking their children on unauthorised holidays during term time, our attendance has been very low again this week. Classes1, 2 and 3 all have attendance below the target of 96%. Despite every effort to try and ensure children are in school learning when they should be, I am still receiving requests for leave during term time. Please note that such absences will be unauthorised and the Local Authority will follow them up and issue parents with cautions and fines. It is really important that we work together as a school community to improve attendance and ensure that all our children make good progress. Well done to class 4 for their attendance of 99.3%

Commendations
